Calder's Kitchen was formed by the Cadler family in 2015 after discovering Grandad Charlie's original Piccalilli recipe, making it in his memory and uncovering something amazing! Charlie was a milkman and lived most of his life in South Shields, Tyne & Wear, serving his country in the Second World War. A passoinate cook and family man, we now make each flavour in our range in Grandad's memory using vegetables he used to grow in his back garden and cook with himself.
We started making Piccalilli in our family kitchen after discovering Andrew's late Granddad, Charlie's favourite family recipe and deciding to 'give it a go'.
We love to receive feedback, engagement on social media and are keen to hear from potentially interested wholesalers or stockists including shops, garden centres, cafe's, pubs, restaurants or anyone who sells and appreciates great food.

We now stock around 250 fantastic independent food & drink across the UK and cover a wide range of foodie events throughout the year. We have won awards for our products including a Great Taste Awards in 2016, 2020 & a 2 star award for our Spicy Tomato Chutney in 2022. In 2022 our Sillylilli also won the inaugral Condiment World Cup and has reached the finals of the Deliciouslyorkshire Taste Awards (Best Savoury Condoiment category).
After initially giving our first batch to family and friends to try and receiving great feedback, we used started to sell hampers at Christmas to raise money for a school in Tanzania, East Africa.
We later developed two variations on the traditional recipe, Chillililli which has a delicious medium strength sweet chilli glow and later, the slightly naughty spicy Sillylilli (Andrew's favourite which he now eats with, well pretty much everything!).
